We originally had a different packfront for Burnout Paradise. It featured a car getting smashed on the front cover. Neogaf and other message boards killed us. When the game was delayed we pushed back the ship date and we started on packaging again.
Lincoln Hershberger deserves most of the credit for overall design (as well as the actual designer). Going white was meant to help it stand out on a shelf against 30 other dark videogame covers. That thinking was smart.
Derek Andersen and Lauren Siegel helped write the copy on the back of box.
The "Mugshot" on the back is also an actual picture from an event we did at EA with 200 journalists. That's the shot we captured live during the event - no editing or staging.
